SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (AP) - Police say a driver who veered off a road and struck a tree in Rhode Island has died.

The vehicle left Usquepaug Road and hit a small tree and some shrubs in South Kingstown around 9 p.m. Saturday.

Police say speed did not appear to be a factor in the crash.

The driver, who was the sole occupant, was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police say the driver’s identity is being withheld until next of kin is notified.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
