CRANSTON, R.I. (AP) - Police say an 11-year-old girl was hit by a city-owned vehicle near a middle school in Rhode Island.
The student was struck while crossing the street on her way to Bain Middle School in Cranston Thursday morning. She was taken to Hasbro Children’s Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and is in stable condition.
Police say the girl was hit by a city-owned Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by a city employee.
Authorities say the truck almost struck a second child who managed to get out of the way.
The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with police. The driver has been charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk, not obeying a traffic control device and a manner-of-turning violation.
There’s no evidence drugs or alcohol were involved.
