FAIRLEE, Vt. (AP) - Vermont transportation officials say a stretch of Interstate 91 will close temporarily as crews work to stabilize a rock ledge.
Bruce Martin with the Vermont Agency of Transportation says both southbound lanes of I-91 will be closed for 6 miles (9.66 kilometers) from Exit 16 in Bradford to Exit 15 in Fairlee for three weeks, beginning in late October.
Valley News reports the work was called for after a pickup truck struck several fallen rocks in November 2018, damaging the vehicle and closing the highway for three hours. Martin says a geologist later found many unstable areas that might break off.
Southbound traffic will be detoured off of I-91 onto Route 25 in Bradford, and then onto Route 5 south to Fairlee, where traffic can again pick up the highway.
