SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - Sacramento police have arrested a gunman who held people hostage inside a home for nearly 24 hours.

Authorities say the man surrendered Wednesday afternoon after officers entered the home.

Police went looking for the man Tuesday afternoon after talking to a woman who had been injured in a domestic disturbance.

Police say they spotted the man in a pickup truck, leading to a two-mile slow-speed chase.

Authorities say the man then stopped and, holding a gun, forced a 13-year-old girl from the car and used her as a shield while he entered a home whose occupants he didn’t know.

Police say eight adults and children were held hostage but six were released Tuesday evening while the 13-year-old and a woman who lived at the home managed to escape Wednesday morning.
