TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - Gas prices ticked up a bit in New Jersey but went down around the nation, with analysts saying the price volatility is due to tightening supplies, refinery maintenance and some unplanned outages.
AAA Mid-Atlantic says the average price of a gallon of regular unleaded was $2.56 in New Jersey last week, up a penny from the previous week but much lower than the $2.82 recorded at this time last year.
The average gas price across the nation was $2.61 a gallon, down four cents from last week and also well below the average of $2.83 at this time last year.
Analysts say drivers can expect fluctuations at the pump through the end of the month due to ongoing refinery maintenance season and tighter gasoline supply.
