PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - One of Oregon’s largest office buildings has achieved the highest level of certification from an organization promoting sustainability in building design, construction and operation.
The Oregonian/OregonLive reported Wednesday that U.S. Bancorp Tower in Portland has received the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED Platinum designation.
The certification is part of the nonprofit organization’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design program.
Minority owner Unico Properties of Seattle made upgrades that helped earn the certification for the building known locally as “Big Pink.”
The changes include climate-control and plumbing system improvements and new trash and maintenance management plans.
Unico has also added more efficient elevators and showers and storage for bike commuters in the 42-story building that opened in 1983.
Real estate investment trust TPF Equity REIT is the building’s majority owner.
