PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - The Rhode Island Department of Revenue team created last year to collect millions owed to the state has collected $196,000.

Officials originally anticipated the Central Collections Unit to bring in $1.3 million in the first partial year and $3.1 million in its first full year. These numbers were sliced to $2.75 million by the end of next June.

The Providence Journal reports that state agencies have referred $6.4 million to the unit, of that $2.5 million is part of pending litigation.



According a report by the Department of Revenue the unit has made 1,140 calls and sent 196 emails to debtors, closed 106 cases, and put together 24 payment plans.
