DENVER (AP) - A federal land agency has withdrawn proposed oil and gas leases on public Colorado land from a December sale because a court ruling on federal sage grouse conservation.
The Denver Post reports that the Colorado Bureau of Land Management said Wednesday that the land up for lease in Jackson, Moffat and Rio Blanco counties would be reconsidered for a future sale.
Officials say a preliminary order issued Oct.16 by U.S District Judge Lynn Winmill in Boise, Idaho suspends the Trump administration’s changes to plans the Obama administration approved in 2015 to protect greater sage grouse.
State officials say the changes removed restrictions on development across 10 states.
Land officials say they plan to look at the implications on federal oil and gas leases approved in September.
