DESTIN, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say a Florida man driving drunk without a license used his handcuffs to hit a deputy so hard it knocked out the deputy’s tooth.

Okaloosa County Sheriff’s officials say 26-year old Angel Lopez rear ended another driver Sunday night with such force the car went airborne. Authorities say Lopez does not have a driver’s license.

According to deputies, he was able to wriggle the handcuffs behind his back to the front of his body while in a patrol car. When the deputy stopped to re-secure the handcuffs, they say Lopez struck the deputy in the mouth, knocking a tooth loose. The deputy used his Taser to subdue Lopez.

He is charged with DUI with property damage, driving without a license, resisting arrest with violence, attempted escape, and aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer.
