NEWPORT, Vt. (AP) - A Vermont school district superintendent says a high school is closed due to a “credible threat.”

The North Country Union High School was closed Thursday.

The Caledonian Record reports that Newport police arrested a 17-year-old male suspect on unrelated charges late Wednesday night. The county sheriff’s department said the suspect was in Department of Corrections custody on Thursday.

Superintendent John Castle said Thursday that school is anticipated to resume on Friday but he was waiting for more information from law enforcement before making that decision.
