QUEENSBURY, N.Y. (AP) - Four warplanes that helped the Allies win World War II are scheduled to visit an upstate New York airport.
The Massachusetts-based Collings Foundation’s Wings of Freedom Tour is scheduled to fly into Floyd Bennett Memorial Airport in Queensbury, Warren County, for a four-day stopover starting around noon Monday.
The planes include a Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress, a Consolidated B-24 Liberator, a B-25 Mitchell and a North American P-51 Mustang. They’re among the only of their kind still airworthy.
The B-17, B-24 and B-25 were bombers used by the U.S. Army Air Forces in both the European and Pacific theaters of WWII, while the P-51 Mustang was a fighter used in both theaters.
Based outside Boston, the Collings Foundation is in its 29th year of bringing WWII aircraft to U.S. cities
