VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) - Washington state health officials have fined a Vancouver doctor $5,000 and placed conditions on his practice in connection with the death of a 4-year-old boy.
The Columbian reports that Chester C. Hu administered general anesthesia to 4-year-old Mykel Wayne Peterson during a visit to a dental clinic in Vancouver last year.
The Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office said the boy died of multiple drug intoxication from anesthesia.
An order signed this month by the state Medical Quality Assurance Commission says Hu failed to meet the standard of care by not using appropriate monitoring equipment and not having a trained person watching the patient in recovery.
Hu and his attorney also signed that order. Hu could not be reached for comment.
Among other conditions, Hu must write and present a scholarly paper about anesthesia and sedation risks.
