LAUREL, Mont. (AP) - A Montana school resource officer has been suspended and placed on paid administrative leave while an investigation is conducted into sexual misconduct involving a student.

Officials have not identified the officer.

Matthew Lurker is chief administrative officer for the city of Laurel, which is about 18 miles (29 kilometers) southwest of Billings in Yellowstone County.

Lurker says the Laurel Police Department and the City of Laurel are conducting a joint investigation, but he declined to provide any specifics, including the name of the school to which the officer was assigned.

He said only that the investigation is taking place within the Laurel Public Schools.

School district superintendent Linda Filpula was not immediately available for comment Monday.
