MINOT, N.D. (AP) - Elementary school students in Minot raised nearly $3,000 to outfit a K-9 officer with the city police department.
The money raised by the students at Longfellow Elementary was enough to buy a uniform vest and collar for the German shepherd named Mace, as well as a bulletproof vest.
Senior Patrol Officer Matthew Pappenfuss tells the Minot Daily News that the children “went above and beyond.”
Longfellow PTA officer Terri Duchsherer says the group stresses community service, and helping out a dog was a project with which students could connect.
