GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) - Grand Forks police say a 55-year-old man later found dead apparently inadvertently injured his mother when he fired a gun inside her apartment.

Police on Friday identified the man as Kevin Nelson of Grand Forks. Nelson was found dead on Thursday and his 72-year-old mother, Carole Glomstad, also of Grand Forks, was wounded. Both appeared to have gunshot wounds.

Police were called Thursday morning about what may have been gunshots. Several rounds were fired outside. Officers could not find any suspects in the area. No one was hurt in that shooting.

About three hours later, another person reported that Glomstad had said on the phone that Nelson had just discharged a firearm in her apartment.

Glomstad suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital.

Police say their investigation continues.
