SEATTLE (AP) - Authorities say a man’s body was found inside a West Seattle home where a fire started as King County sheriff’s deputies were trying to evict a tenant.
Sheriff’s Sgt. Jason Houck says deputies and a SWAT team were trying to evict the 51-year-old resident of the home Friday morning when they heard several “pops” and then discovered the house was on fire.
Houck says they had earlier tried contacting the occupant through a loudspeaker but got no response. He says the SWAT team was there as a precaution because the occupant had ignored earlier eviction notices and had two dozen firearms registered in his name.
The Seattle Times reports the homeowner who recently died, had been trying to evict her son from the house since last year.
Authorities are unsure whether the body belongs to the occupant of the home.
