SWAN QUARTER, N.C. (AP) - Authorities say an inmate at a North Carolina prison has been stabbed with a homemade weapon.
The N.C. Department of Public Safety said in a news release the incident occurred Wednesday morning at Hyde Correctional Institution in Fairfield. A department news release said the inmate was assaulted by other inmates while on the recreation yard.
The wounded inmate was taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
An internal investigation is underway and the Hyde County Sheriff’s Office has been contacted to look into the incident. No suspects have been identified so far.
