RIDGEWOOD, N.J. (AP) - A New Jersey village says a new ordinance is not meant to cut down on live music, but rather let people hire bands for parties without fear of having a neighbor call to shut it down.
The Ridgewood Village Council approved the amendment Wednesday that adds live bands to a list of nuisances that are restricted after 11 p.m. The Record reports council members stressed it wasn’t a strike against live music - rather against people who would call the police to shut down a party at any hour.
Mayor Susan Knudsen says the previous system lacked equity, saying some people could hire a band to play until 2 a.m. without problems, while someone else could get shut down at 10 p.m.
