MESQUITE, Nev. (AP) - Police say a Mesquite man is in police custody after a 12-hour standoff with police.
Mesquite Police say officers went to 51-year-old Joseph Daut’s home Wednesday night after reports of a disturbance.
Police say Daut barricaded himself and fired shots at officers. Officers fired tear gas through his windows and tried to negotiate his surrender.
SWAT officers Thursday morning found the man and his dog in his backyard. Police say officers killed the man’s dog when it became aggressive and a police K9 helped them take Daut into custody.
He was taken to the hospital for treatment but it wasn’t clear if he had been released and booked into jail by Friday. Police did not immediately return a message.
Daut does not have a listed attorney or phone number where someone can be reached to comment on his behalf.
