88-year-old woman hit by bullet outside home in Vermont

TUNBRIDGE, Vt. (AP) - Vermont authorities are investigating the shooting of an 88-year-old woman outside her home in Tunbridge.

Officials said Edith Whitney was hit by a projectile Saturday night and transported to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in New Hampshire.

She underwent emergency surgery but was in critical condition on Sunday.

Members of the Vermont State Police and Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife responded Saturday evening. The investigation is ongoing, and troopers want to know about any firearm use including target practice in the area.
