BALTIMORE (AP) - All but roughly two or three public schools in Baltimore are expected to resume classes after dozens of buildings suffered from heat-related problems.
The Baltimore Sun reported Sunday that schools CEO Sonja Santelises announced that nearly all schools would be open Monday. City and private contractors worked through the weekend to repair burst pipes and broken boilers.
About 60 buildings experienced heat-related problems last week. Images of children in winter coats and hats had prompted outrage. The schools closed due to frigid conditions on Friday.
City Schools Chief Operations Officer Keith Scroggins said Saturday evening that workers were checking every school to document the temperature within each building and to make sure that all the windows were closed.
