BALTIMORE (AP) - A GoFundMe account has been set up to help students stay warm in Baltimore schools.
WBAL reported Friday that the money is intended for space heaters, hats and coats. Heating systems in some schools have been failing as temperatures plummet.
Nearly $70,000 had been raised by Saturday afternoon. The fundraising goal was $20,000.
The fund was set up by Coppin State student Samierra Jones, Morgan State student Valeria Arum and city school teacher Aaron Maybin.
City Schools Chief Operations Officer Keith Scroggins told WBAL that the district is not against the fund. But he was uncertain how the money would be administered.
