CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - A man has died after being found on the entrance ramp of a South Carolina interstate.

Charleston police spokesman Charles Francis told local media that officers are investigating the shooting death of 48-year-old Dominique Sheppard of North Charleston.

Sheppard was found on an I-26 entrance ramp in Charleston late Tuesday.

Police said a passer-by found Sheppard on the shoulder of the road and someone in a nearby car. Sheppard was taken to the Medical University of South Carolina Hospital where he died around 1:15 a.m. Wednesday.

The person in the car was gone by the time police arrived.

Police are trying to find a van they think drove by shortly before the shooting. Police think the people in the van might have seen the shooting.

No arrests have been reported.
