MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) - Faculty at the University of Montana is bucking a recommendation to end the university’s minor in South and Southeast Asian Studies.
The Montana Standard reports University of Montana Faculty Senate Chair Marc Hendrix says faculty feel deleting of the minor program would be “unnecessary” and students “would lose out.”
As part of the university’s effort to fix its budget, the office of the provost proposed a series of changes tied to a plan for faculty reductions. Among the changes for the College of Humanities and Sciences was the termination of the Global Humanities and Religions program along with its South and Southeast Asian Studies minor.
The committee “approved termination” of the bachelor’s and minor in Global Humanities and Religions with the caveat that the interdisciplinary minor be separated from the mix. The Montana Board of Regents will make the final call.
