SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - State education officials are inviting 10 high schools to participate in a federally funded effort to increase graduation rates.
The Public Education Department announced the invitations Thursday for a selection of schools with graduation rates below 67 percent. Schools that participate in the three-year effort must agree to follow a set of educational practices and principles.
New Mexico’s overall graduation rate last year was 71 percent and well below the national average.
The creation of a so-called High School Redesign Network in New Mexico is an outgrowth of a collaborative partnership between several states and Johns Hopkins University.
Invitations have gone out to schools in Cuba, Espanola, Belen, Albuquerque and beyond - including three charter schools.
