NEW YORK (AP) - The New York Police Department says a teenager has been taken into custody after a school safety agent found an unloaded gun in his backpack during a routine screening.

Police say the student was scanned Thursday after he activated a metal detector at Westinghouse High School, a vocational school in Brooklyn.

The school was not shut down.
