SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) - A Georgia college has begun construction on a $22 million building that will house a school for training health professionals.
Gov. Nathan Deal attended groundbreaking ceremonies for the new Waters College of Health Professions at Armstrong State University in Savannah. The 75,000-square-foot (6,968-sq. meter) building will be used to train students in health-related fields from nursing to radiology.
Georgia lawmakers approved $22 million to build the facility. The project also received a $2 million donation from Savannah businessman Don Waters, who attended the groundbreaking last Tuesday. Waters serves on the Board of Regents that governs Georgia’s public colleges.
The new health professions college is scheduled to open in the spring of 2019, after the planned merger of Armstrong’s Savannah campus with Georgia Southern University in Statesboro.
