HARTFORD, Vt. (AP) - Vermont officials are pressuring a town to present a long-term solution for a reservoir that needs repairs because of the risk of a potential breach.
Hartford town officials drained the Wright Reservoir in 2015 amid concerns from the state Department of Environmental Conservation that the dam was in danger of breaching and potentially washing out Interstate 89. The Valley News reports (https://bit.ly/2f49SGX ) town officials are now meeting with officials from the state Dam Safety Program to review their options.
The cost of a permanent repair was estimated at $600,000. In August, acting Town Manager Scott Clooney said there are new environmental concerns due to a new wetland ecosystem developing in the currently-drained dam area.
