LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Police say a Kentucky man is charged with killing his girlfriend’s 2-year-old daughter.

Louisville Police spokesman Dwight Mitchell told The Courier-Journal that 21-year-old Erin Smith-Spencer was arrested Wednesday and has since been charged with murder.

An arrest citation says Smith-Spencer caused “severe physical injuries” while disciplining the child on Monday. Mitchell said police were called two days later when the girl was unresponsive. She died later that day.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office said the child’s cause of death was multiple blunt force injuries. Deputy Coroner Scott Russ says the manner of death was ruled a homicide.

Online jail records don’t say whether Smith-Spencer has an attorney.
