PHOENIX (AP) - A man and a dog are recovering after being shot outside a north Phoenix racetrack.

Phoenix police say the incident happened Friday around 3:30 p.m. near Turf Paradise at Bell Road and 7th avenue.

According to witnesses, two dogs got into a fight. This prompted the owner of one to shoot the other dog.

Police say the round ricocheted and hit the other dog owner in the foot.

The victim, who was a volunteer with a dog rescue organization, was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The wounded dog is expected to make a full recovery.

The dog owner accused of firing a weapon is cooperating with authorities.

Saturday events at Turf Paradise grounds are expected to continue as planned.
