NEW YORK (AP) - Authorities say a 58-year-old man has been charged in a 1993 knifepoint sexual assault of an 11-year-old girl.
The Manhattan district attorney’s office announced Thursday that William Dixon was indicted on sodomy charges. It wasn’t clear if he had a lawyer who could comment.
Prosecutors say Dixon approached the girl in the hallway of a Hamilton Heights apartment building, held a knife to her throat and forced her to the building’s rooftop where he sexually assaulted her.
In 2002, a DNA profile was developed from the victim’s rape kit and was uploaded into the FBI’s database. It came back negative.
Prosecutors say a match was finally made this January after Dixon pleaded guilty to raping a 12-year-old girl in the Bronx and his DNA was entered into the system.
