Man in airport incident texted friend about plan
Minutes before an ex-Marine carrying a fake gun went to Orlando International Airport, he texted a friend that he wanted to be killed by police officers. In a recording of a 911 call released Wednesday by Orlando police, Michael Pettigrew’s friend tells a police dispatcher that the 26-year-old former Marine had texted him that he was headed to the airport. No shots were fired and no one was hurt in the incident Tuesday.
A DOZEN DOGS INFECTED WITH FLU THAT SPREAD AT FLORIDA SHOWS
Rossana Passaniti of the University of Florida said Wednesday that the dogs testing positive for the flu were either at a Perry, Georgia dog show from May 19-21 or the Deland, Florida dog show the following weekend - or were exposed to dogs that had been at those shows. There is no evidence that the virus infects people, and all the dogs being treated are in stable condition.
FLORIDA DIVE BOAT CAPTAIN BITTEN ON HAND BY ’SEA CREATURE’
Palm Beach County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Teri Barbera tells the Palm Beach Post the agency’s marine unit responded Sunday after receiving a distress call from an Emerald Charters dive boat. They airlifted Randall Jordan to a hospital with hand injuries. Jordan’s sister told the newspaper Jordan underwent “reattachment surgery.” He was listed in good condition.
WOMAN GETS $30,000 SETTLEMENT AFTER BEING DRAGGED BY DEPUTY
David Frankel, the attorney representing Dasyl Rios, says he hopes something good comes from the February 2015 case. He says he received the check Tuesday. The video showed Rios screaming “you’re hurting me” as she was dragged about 300 feet by Broward County Sheriff’s detention deputy Christopher Johnson. Following a yearlong investigation, prosecutors declined to prosecute Johnson.
DISNEY EMPLOYEE ACCUSED OF IMPERSONATING FBI AGENT
An Orange County Sheriff’s deputy responded when he saw 26-year-old Brett Michael Smith pull over the woman near SeaWorld’s Aquatica waterpark Saturday. The woman didn’t initially stop after hitting an orange traffic cone when she realized the Aquatica parking lot was full. An arrest report says Smith walked up to her car at a red light and flashed his badge, saying he “worked for the FBI.”
