CEDAR MILL, Ore. (AP) - Authorities say a man jumped from a third-floor apartment to escape a fire that left 23 people displaced in suburban Portland.
Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue said in a news release that the fire in the Cedar Mill area started just after 10:15 a.m. Wednesday on a second-floor deck at the Commons at Timber Creek Apartments.
Arriving firefighters found heavy flames from the decks on the second and third floors of two apartments.
Fire officials say the man who jumped from his apartment was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. A woman was also treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Ten of the 20 units aren’t habitable because of fire, water and smoke damage, leaving 20 adults and three children displaced.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
