A South Carolina newspaper has noticed something a little, well, off about a British McDonald’s ad trying to evoke the essence of the Palmetto State. The Brits seem to think it’s a lot like Texas.
In the TV spot, a couple waiting for service at a cell phone store discuss lunch plans, the woman talking about her craving for the burger chain’s limited-time special, the South Carolina Stack.
“As the woman names off each of the ingredients, she progressively becomes more Texas and Western looking, with a cowboy hat and Dolly Parton-inspired blonde hair,” The State newspaper observed Wednesday. “The man in the commercial also ends up also fully decked out in Western wear, while twirling a cartoonish lasso.”
While the characters’ costumes are laughably off the mark, apparently reviewers think the burger chain did a jolly good job with the tangy mustard sauce for the sandwich, reported The State, citing online reviews.
The South Carolina Stack, part of the “Great Tastes of America” menu, is only available at participating McDonald’s restaurants in the United Kingdom through May 30. The following day the Louisiana Stack with spicy ketchup will be on the menu, according to the chain’s U.K. website.
Here’s hoping for a hilariously bad British attempt at Cajun accents.
