DENVER (AP) - The sentencing judge called it one of the most violent child deaths she has seen.

The Denver Post reports (https://dpo.st/2qlEjvE ) Ever Lopez-Calidonio was sentenced to 48 years in Prison Monday for beating to death the 4-year-old son of his girlfriend in 2014.

District Attorney Peter Weir’s spokeswoman Pam Russell says Lopez-Calidonio, who was a boxer in his home country of Guatemala, beat Jason Ramirez on Oct. 2, 2014, shortly after the boy’s mother left for work.

Russell says Lopez-Calidonio then brought the boy downstairs to the parking lot, where a neighbor saw him slapping and punching the boy.

Lopez-Calidonio pleaded guilty to child abuse resulting in death.

An autopsy revealed the boy suffered severe blunt-force injuries, his liver was severely damaged and his kidneys, pancreas and bowels were bleeding.
