EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say an off-duty police officer headed to work was killed in a multivehicle crash that left five other people injured.

Bergen County prosecutors say four vehicles were involved in the accident that occurred around 11 p.m. Saturday on eastbound Route 3 in East Rutherford. But the cause of the crash remains under investigation and no charges have been filed.

Union City Police Sgt. Mark Zeitounia was killed in the crash. The 44-year-old of Lyndhurst man - the married father of a son - had served on the Union City force since 1999, spending his whole career there in the patrol division and serving as a training officer.



Five other people were treated for minor injuries, but further details were not disclosed.
