PROVO, Utah (AP) - A Utah Highway Patrol trooper is recovering after he was struck by an SUV while standing outside his vehicle during a highway traffic stop near Lindon.

The Daily Herald reports (https://bit.ly/2mXYBhn) Trooper Devyn Gurney was released from a hospital Tuesday, one day after the incident on Interstate 15.

Authorities say Gurney pulled over a vehicle and was issuing a speeding citation when the SUV driver apparently fell asleep and struck him.

Gurney was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

The SUV driver also suffered critical injuries. An update on the driver’s condition is not known.

The 27-year-old trooper is expected to make a full recovery.

Sgt. Todd Royce is reminding motorists to yield to the right when they are being pulled over, even when already in the express lane.
