MOUNT HOLLY, N.J. (AP) - A New Jersey jail’s health care provider has settled a negligent death lawsuit filed by the family of a man who died there three years ago.

The Trentonian (https://bit.ly/2meLWFi ) reports CFG Health Systems will pay more than $275,000 to the family of 50-year-old Jerome Iozzia. He died at Burlington County Jail in February 2014.

Pemberton police arrested Iozzia in November 2013. Court documents say he was hospitalized when he began suffering heart palpitations and was released to the jail after a pacemaker was implanted.

The suit claimed prison officials “ignored” instructions regarding Iozzia’s postoperative care. It claimed Iozzia failed to appear for any of his scheduled medical visits, and an autopsy showed required medications weren’t present in his system.

A Burlington County spokesman says CFG has taken “corrective action.”
