PEORIA, Ariz. (AP) - Police in Peoria say a man who allegedly fatally shot his estranged wife last week and then turned the gun on himself has died.

They say 53-year-old David Mattison died in a hospital from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Police say 49-year-old Tammy Mattison was shot in the head Friday at her apartment while her 12-year-old daughter was home.

They say the couple were having relationship issues and lived in separate units in the same Peoria apartment complex.

Police say the girl called 911 after she found her mother shot.

Tammy Mattison later died at a hospital.

Police say an investigation into the apparent murder-suicide is continuing and the 12-year-old girl is being cared for by family members.
