MONTICELLO, Utah (AP) - Utah’s remote southeastern corner is drawing more new residents than any other place in the U.S.

According to U.S. Census Bureau data released Wednesday, San Juan County gained more than 1,000 new residents between 2015 and 2016, giving it a growth rate of 7.6 percent and the title of the fastest-growing county in the country.

San Juan County Commission Chairman Phil Lyman says people are drawn to San Juan County’s beauty. He says he hasn’t noticed a lot of new construction or businesses, but vacant houses have been filling.

Two other Utah counties also made the top 10 fastest growing list: Wasatch County ranked 4 at 4.7 percent and Juab was ranked 9 at 4.2 percent.
