NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The Coast Guard has suspended its search for a possible vehicle in Lake Pontchartrain after a crash involving multiple vehicles on the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway Bridge.

The Coast Guard said in a statement its crews found no evidence that a vehicle had plunged into the lake after it responded to the scene before dawn Thursday.

The search began after police reported a damaged guardrail on the northbound lanes of the causeway following the crash.

Police told WWLT-TV that one person died in the crash, which snarled traffic on the causeway for nearly three hours.
