ATLANTA (AP) - Authorities say about 34,000 customers across Georgia were without power several hours after severe storms pounded the state, leaving one man dead after a tree smashed into his home.
Jackson County Sheriff Janis Mangum said the man, his wife and two children were all in a bedroom when the tree came crashing through the home, killing 29-year-old Jason Lee Combs Tuesday evening. Mangum said his wife and children survived “by the grace of God.”
Georgia Power said most of the outages that remained Wednesday morning - about 32,000 - were in the greater Atlanta area.
In northwest Georgia, Whitfield County Emergency Management Director Claude Craig said damage included a metal roof blown from a building into power lines. Craig told The Daily Citizen newspaper that no injuries were reported.
