WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, Vt. (AP) - A man has pleaded not guilty to charges alleging he fatally stabbed a Vermont woman who he was romantically involved with.
Arnaldo Cruz was ordered held without bail Tuesday in Windsor Superior Court in the death of 58-year-old Betty Rodriguez of Springfield. His attorney says she would seek an interpreter to assist in her client’s proceedings. She entered not-guilty pleas to second-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter on Cruz’s behalf.
The 53-year-old Cruz, a New Jersey resident, was arrested Monday after police say he was found lying facedown on the ground near an apartment building where Rodriguez had been stabbed.
The stabbing prompted police to ask the nearby Union Street School, one of Springfield’s two elementary schools, to “shelter in place.”
