DENVER (AP) - Prosecutors have charged a man wanted for 40 years in connection with a fatal shooting at a downtown Denver bar after authorities tracked him down in Texas.

KUSA-TV reported (https://on9news.tv/2mqXyXt) Tuesday 84-year-old Benito Soto is charged with murder in the 1977 death of Armando Garcia.

Witnesses had told investigators they heard two gunshots and found Garcia bleeding on the ground outside the bar.

Police identified Soto as the suspect the night of the shooting and issued a warrant for his arrest, but Soto was able to evade authorities for four decades until police found him a few months ago.

In a jail interview with KUSA, Soto said he didn’t remember the shooting and that he was “going to die before I even go to court.”

He’s scheduled for a court appearance next month.
