‘Eagle cam’ shows bald eagles, President and First Lady, protecting eggs in D.C. tree

This week’s blast of sleet and snow kept the District’s “first couple” huddled together to protect their offspring — in a tree in Northeast.

The President and First Lady — a pair of bald eagles that have nested in the National Arboretum — were shown Tuesday via a bird-watching camera shielding a pair of eggs, which are expected to hatch at the end of this month.

The park’s “eagle cam” — set up last year - captured the avian couple snuggling under a blanket of snow. About halfway through the one minute video Mr. President flies away for a short while, and First Lady adjusts herself, clearly showing the eggs.

The eagles first arrived to the Arboretum in 2014, settling in a tulip poplar. They raised one eaglet in 2015 and the following year, the park’s camera witnessed the birth of Freedom and Liberty, the siblings of the upcoming hatchlings.
