MAHWAH, N.J. (AP) - Police say a school bus carrying students from Passaic rear-ended another on a class trip, sending 17 students to a hospital with minor injuries.

The accident happened Friday morning on Route 17 in Mahwah as four buses were taking 179 students from School #11 to Museum Village in Monroe, New York.

Police say a bus driver hit the brakes to avoid debris in the road and the bus behind it crashed into the back.

The students who did not sustain bumps and bruises were transported back to the school.

Police are investigating.
