PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Police in Philadelphia say a tow truck driver in the midst of repossessing a van got into a shootout with a man trying to stop him, killing the man and wounding a neighborhood dog.

Police say the tow truck driver was in the process of repossessing a Toyota passenger van Friday morning when a man who somehow knew the vehicle’s owner showed up with a gun.

Police say both men wound up shooting at each other and the 32-year-old man was pronounced dead at a hospital.

The tow truck driver told police he fired in self-defense.

The ordeal is under investigation and no charges have been filed. The dog’s condition wasn’t immediately available.
