NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Police say they suspect a Tennessee man killed his wife and then tried to kill himself and his daughter.

The Nashville Police Department says in a statement that crews initially responded early Friday to a report of a fire at a home in the Hermitage neighborhood and found one person dead and two injured.

Further investigation found that an accelerant was used in the fire, plastic had been taped over the windows and smoke detectors had been disabled.

Police say they suspect 55-year-old Gary Daugherty killed his wife, 48-year-old Suzanne Daugherty, who suffered “obvious trauma unrelated to the fire,” and then tried to kill himself and the couple’s 9-year-old daughter, Crystal Daugherty.

The father and daughter were found together and had severe fire-related injuries. Police say they were taken to hospitals, where they were listed in critical condition.
