PHOENIX (AP) - Preliminary toxicology reports show a Phoenix man accused in a fatal car crash last week had alcohol and three drugs in his system including marijuana and a sleep medication.
Bond was set at $75,000 for 20-year-old Xavier Evinaldo Mejia at his initial court appearance Friday. He doesn’t have an attorney yet.
Mejia was arrested Wednesday after being released from a hospital following last Saturday’s crash.
He’s being held on suspicion of reckless manslaughter, endangerment and aggravated assault causing serious physical injury.
Phoenix police say Mejia was driving a vehicle that crossed several lanes of traffic and crashed head-on into another car, killing the other driver.
Court documents show Mejia told police that he drank beer less than three hours before the deadly crash and also smoked marijuana.
