FIFE, Wash. (AP) - A pedestrian was killed in Fife in a crash involving a King County sheriff’s deputy.
KOMO-TV reports (https://bit.ly/2tZKFHm ) the victim was struck by 38-year-old deputy Cesar Molina, who was coming home from his shift Thursday night.
Police say the pedestrian was in the middle of the road in the 2300 block of Pacific Highway East.
Fife police say the person was hit by the deputy’s driver-side spotlight, then thrown by the force and struck by another vehicle.
The roadway is dark and doesn’t have crosswalks. Speed isn’t believed to be a factor.
Molina had just been cleared to return to work after he fatally shot 20-year-old Tommy Le in June while responding to reports of a man armed with a knife threatening Burien residents. After the shooting, deputies found Le was carrying a pen.
Molina is now on leave with pay while the crash is investigated.
